BO light
I need to confirm whether on not this BO light is correct for a 51' M38. It sure looks correct from the photos, but my question centers around the manufacturer. Page 82 of Ryan's book has the manufacturer as "Autolite and Guide". The light in question is clearly stamped Prestolite. Can anyone shed light on this for me? Thanks.

Prestolite bought out Auto-Lite in the late 50's. Replacement parts after 56 or 57 carried Prestolite on them. In your photo you have only showed the manufacturer's ID for the bulb and not the entire light assembly and/or it's mounting bracket.
The correct light assy (housing) has certain identifying traits as does the correct mounting guard/support.
If you note the ORD 9 entries for the light body showing Auto-Lite as prime on the light body WO# 118456 and AL# CB-22084
For the Guard shows only Willys WO# 800390 (in sect 2101) ORD# G740-7372820. This indicates Willys as the provider and it's initail application as far as the Army was concerned was G740 (M38).
For the lamps it list two:
without wires by Guide Lamp GL# 925875 WO# 118924 ORD# 7760505
With wires by AL #2-15-8-49 WO# 802428 ORD# 7760505
It is the lamps that Ryan's manufacturer info refers to and not the light assy or it's guard.
