M38 data plate

Post by evanso1975 »

Hello All,

My first attempt at attaching a photo to messages, so wish me luck!

This is the weights & dimensions plate that was on my M38 when I bought it (believe me it's a lot straighter than it looks in the photo!).

Yes, the "jeep" picture is engraved into the brass. Doesn't look like the standard plate; could this be a motor pool replacement? It's 1/16" brass plate. All other plates on the jeep were the standard type.

For info, I was told my M38 had sat disassembled in a garage for about 35 years (this is how I bought it last year). So, this would suggest that this data plate was made prior to the mid-1970's. My jeep was sold to the civilian market prior to 13th March 1958 (it's first registration date).

Any thoughts anyone has on the possible origins of this plate would be appreciated......

Wbr,
Owen.
