F-134 overhaul expense.

Post by m38a1chuck »

What would you estimate the cost of a overhaul of a F-134 engine? Low to high.

The variables are many. Short block, long block, with/without accessories, new or overhaul limits, will the block require boring oversize?, will the crank require turning to undersizes?, new/reground/as removed cam?, cam followers useable /reground/new?, and finally parts like water pump, oil pump, and pistons if needed. Are you doing the overhaul yourself, sending the whole job to the auto machinist or sending machine work out and doing assembly yourself.

Without a firm set of answers to the above the overhaul can be anywhere from $1000 to $3000.

I'm tearing down and rebuilding myself. Machine shop is taking care of dressing the block for me. I'm going to be about $1300 in the hole.

My L134 was $750. Not sure if the F-head would be more. I sent it to a shop in Phoenix. They dipped the block and head and checked for cracks, plained the head, replaced the valve seats, extracted two broken studs, and it came with new pistons and gasket/seals. They also installed one bearing for me. I can't remember which one (cam or crank). I had help from a buddy with disassembly and reassembly. I don't claim to be a mechanic but I learned a bunch.

Just to clarify, my $ included new pistons, turning the crank, new valve stuff, rings, bearings, etc. etc. etc.
