M-38 Doors

Post by pilotomutante »

Would anyone be so kind as of telling me if this door frame is original to my M-38 or just something Bubba made up?
It came with the car when I purchased it and has been siting in my garage since then. I never thought about them until I found them recently again.

Thanks!

They are the later field installed non-folding doors.

Your driver's side door should have a curved zipper opening for the driver to use to slip his hand through to display ID and etc at gates.

Door skins

Post by Kendall »

Did the military actually put zippered windows on the door skins or is that a bubba modification?
Thanks,

Will look for it Wes. Is the plastic style canvas correct or a later on modification?

About the zippered windows, the zipper pullers are not a known USA brand, like Talon, Scovill, Conmar, etc. So I´m not sureif they are original, neither the plastic material the door is made of (except for the frame).

This is my opinion;
These vehicles are dangerous to drive out there on the busy hiway with the side curtains and doors on. You can't see a vehicle coming up on the sides or is very difficult to. You can only see thru the winshield and thru the back window. The one driver side mirror is difficult to adjust with a door on if the window screen doesn't zip. And there isn't a mirror on the passenger side.

Easy Ken. He's only asking if the doors are correct. There is a ton of items on these old jeeps that make them an extra challenge to drive in today's traffic and many of them are serious safety concerns. That is where the gray line gets developed between a daily driver and an accurate resto. Dual master cylinder, updated lighting, extra mirrors the list can really get long but this topic should be a stand alone topic rather than a detour of a guys thread. :wink:

The vinyl fabric was not original. It was the door's metal frame I was referring to. I really cannot discern what type fabric that is in that photo.

The stock driver's door has the zippered hand slot which allows quick and easy mirror adjustment.
