Lead in paint?
Does anyone know if the original paint and primer contained lead?

I believe it did. Remember the primer for the OD2430 was simply a flattened coat of the standard OD 2430. Unlike other parts and WWII jeeps a separate primer was not used. The frame received a coat of chassis black without any primer under it from the frame builder. Again I believe most of these 1950 paint products still contained some levels of lead.

Yeah.... might want to start wearing a mask...Bretto wrote:Yikes, I need to be a lot more careful when I'm welding. I'm getting a lot of paint bubbling up and smoking near my welds. Got a bad headache today from it.
Side note, you might be able to find a 'surplus' firefighter re-breather/SCBA system for cheap.

If you are using flux core just fire up a fan. I don't have any trouble when I do this. Also helps to weld outside if you can. If I'm boxed in while I'm welding I wear a respirator but it's sure awkward with my welding helmet on. Burning paint fumes, lead or no lead will give you a headache.
