fuel in crankcase
Hi I just aquired a 1952 M38 that had been sitting for several years, it started very easy but after it ran for about 10 min I had a leak from the bell housing. needless to say I thought the rear main seal was shot, but after looking into this I figured out it was fuel in the crankcase, and the intake manifold was full also. What amazed me was the engine would still run, not real well but it still ran. I have a carb kit on order and I also sent the fuel pump to Terrill Machine in TX. to be rebuilt as the diaphrams have cracks. This M38 is very clean and I would like to keep as many original parts on it as I can, I will keep you posted

Yes It is a vacuum/fuel pump, I wanted to order a rebuild kit and they wouldn't sell me one but they only charger me $75.00 to rebuild it plus shipping. I just purchased a carb kit from Kaiserwillys and it was $49.00, just a bag of parts and gaskets no instructions or diagrams, and it didn't include some parts I needed.

The best kit is from Midwest Military or Army Jeep Parts for $55. It has all the correct parts and late model rubber parts that will hold up to todays fuels.
