M38 top bows with Summer top

Post by Smittykid »

Hi guys,
I'm a newbie here. Just bought a 51 M38. She's a beaut, but had no top or top bows. I bought a set of top bows from D & L Bessinger. Unpainted, but only minor surface rust. I want to purchase a Summer Top for it. I have no intention of installing doors or side curtains. My question is this-with a Summer Top -do I need the rods from the top bows to the windshield? The top bows I got from D&L Bessinger were not drilled to accept the rods. I've been told you need the rods to keep the top taught. What do you guys think ? Thanks a million, Smitty

Yes the top will sag and flop less above the driver's head. We have the rod drawings floating around here. Build your own set.

Check in the downloads area. I know it's here on the site but I have it saved as well so can send it to you if need be.
