M38A1 Steering Column Jacket

Post by Bob_C »

Hi All,

It may be a dumb question, but I'm trying to get my floorboards all squared away. Theres one area that puzzles me. I ordered from George @ AJP the half moon steering colmn jacket plates under the assumption that I needed them.

Looking at SNL G758, page 314, I see the floorboard setup diagram. However, I dont see the half moon plates. Were the half moon plates used on a certain production run? I have the upper floorboard of course, + the plate labeled "U" # WO-685679. It says that this plate superseces another, but I cant find what that plate looked like.

If I am only supposed to have 685679 -- how does the gasket get anchored down?

Btw, there are no holes in Plate U that will accept a half moon plate. However on the floorboard, there are holes that will accept the lower plate.

Looks like this is the only plate you need for the M-38A1...

PLATE, access, steering column (superseded by PLATE
WO-.685679)

PLATE, access, steering column (supersedes PLATE
7697526)

I do not see any other plates listed in the SNL for the floors...

Someone with an A1 will have to answer further...

That's what I thought Hal. But now the question is how does the gasket around there get anchored down? Or with the plate configuration I have, is it not required?
