Bad Fuel Tank
Just found out my m38 fuel tank is beyond repair! Will the CJ3A tank fit? I know the filler is a smaller diameter, but would it line up & work? Is there another model under seat tank that would work? The price difference is enough to make me want to save money.

The CJ3A fuel tank is about 1-1/2" lower than the M38 one, so there would be a bigger gap between the tank and the driver's seat. Also, it doesn't have the in-tank fuel filter setup, so you'd need to have a remote filter (maybe an in-line filter would work?).
Also, the CJ3A tank doesn't have the fixing down bracket on the back of the tank like the M38 one.
Ron F has new M38 tanks advertised on his site (probably the most accurate repro ones available):

They're about twice the price of a CJ one, though.

Most beyond repair tanks are indeed repairable. Post some photos of your tank.
Repair can be as easy as patching holes or hot tanking the rust out. It may entail replacing sections of steel by cutting bad areas out and welding in new stock.
