sending unit scew size

Post by RHarris »

Can anyone tell me the sending unit screw size on a omix replacement gas tank for an M38a1. I did not have a tank or sender to begin with and the new tank seems to have two different size threads. Thank you for any info. RH

Can't help with the repro tank, but the screw size for the original sender unit is as follows:

Early - 8/32"NC-2 x 3/8"
Late - 8/32"NC-2 x 1/2"

Both had a lock washer (probably internal tooth). You can find this info on page 169 of the ORD-9.

Hopefully, someone else out there has a repro tank, and can confirm the sizes used......

Sometimes the over spray will plug the threads. Try threading an 8-32 tap through them.

Thank God! I haven't mounted my sending unit and pickup yet - didn't even think about the screws being different. I know the screw holes dont all line up. I just got mine fitted in the tub yesterday. I was about to go off on Omix again. My sending unit screw holes didn't line up either- only 3 or 4 line up.

That has been a common problem with MD Juan tanks.

Weld the holes shut and drill new to match sender. Be sure to align the sender for correct float direction and travel.
