(M38) Accelerator pedal issue with shaft

After preparing the pedal for painting, the shaft (short rod with two ball ends, one side with rubber grommet) has separated from the pedal at what I think is called a swage connection. How do I reconnect that rod in the socket attached to the pedal? I can post pics if necessary.

They way mine is, The rubber socket that the ball slips into has a threaded stud that mounts/attaches with a nut to the bracket that bolts to the back of the motor.
