Short story is this.
Bubba installed a f-head.
I installed 2a lhead.
I have no linkage from pedal to carb as well as no vacuum lines.
I have the correct ys installed, correct fuel pump is on the way, oil bath breather is painted and ready to install.
I have searched for a exploded view pic with parts with no luck.
Somebody kick me in the right direction please!
Gas pedal linkage is very similar to the MB/GPW jeeps. You can probably just make out the M38 linkage here:
Hope Wes doesn't mind me raiding his photo album!
Well that just got simplifed!
Thank you Wesk!
The oil line your speaking of lubes the timing chain?
Can I rob the foot pedal linkage that bolts to the engine off a parts jeep 2a?
It should work. I believe the only real difference is the rod at the pedal due to the M38 pedal to rod connection.
That oil line is normally the pressure line to the oil filter. You shouldn't run it without the filter. Also it should be at least a 2 ply fabric layered line with a separate liner skin. Saving a dime there can cost you dearly on the road both in money and labor to remove the pump to deal with the barb and hose fitting. A healthy engine in cold weather on startup can throw 80 PSI at that hose no matter where the end of it goes. Is that a timing chain 638632 engine or a timing gear 641087 engine?
Got it, oil line. does the exit line out of the oil filter canister go to timing gear cover? The oil filter canister I got with the 2a engine is factory orange original. correct for m38 other than color?
Yes the exit line from the oil filter goes to the timing cover. On the early chain drive cam engines it was helpful in lubricating the chain. On the gear drive cam engines it is not needed since there is a pressure port and nozzle at the front of the block connected to the main oil gallery that sprays at the two gears where they mesh. The timing cover on your block is the later gear drive cover.
The civvy Fram oil filter that came with your engine is not the same as the original Cuno Filter all production M38's came with. Nor is the same as the military Junior filter that often replaced the Cuno's in the field and was used on the WWII MB and the later M38A1.
m38 Fuel pump is in need of repair, sent off. Can I trick the ys to do its job, fuel/air mixturepluging vacuum holes? . would like to fire engine this weekend
The YS only has two tubes. Fuel supply and bowel vent. I suspect you are referring to the bowl vent that goes over to the intake crossover pipe and allows dry clean air to replace fuel in the bowl as it feeds the engine and provides for the occasional release of trapped pressure.
