Question about transfer case, basic settings

Post by Herrmann_Sherman »

I need some help. Please can you tell me what are the basic settings for the transfer case on my M38?

Left gearshift and right gearshift (short one)....

Thank you!!!
(Data plate says for the left gearshift out and in....what means "out", is this rear drive? Or four wheel drive)

Right gearshift (short one)....basic setting is N (neutral)?

left-
0= 2 wheel drive
in= 4 wheel drive

forward= low range
n= neutral
back= high range
normal 2 wheel drive on the street would be
left forward
right back
hope that helps

Neutral (N) would only be selected for operating the power take-off while the jeep is stationary (for example, a winch).....

Neutral is also used when flat towing the jeep short distances and when ever you wish the engine to be running for whatever reason other than moving the jeep it is a good idea to place it in neutral as a safety thing.
