Transfer case lever boot-Where to buy?

Post by Sagebrusher »

Has anyone found a good source for quality/durable transfer case lever boots for the CJ2A/M38/38A1 series?

Bought one a year ago next month in the 13-15 dollar range from a dealer "back east" (Mid west to some, but everything east of the continental divide is back east to most Idahoans). It lasted about three months on a seldom engaged, but always hangared, M38a1 before it fell apart. My friend bought one same place, same time, same shipment, and had his rip while trying to install it. An identical looking, but only priced at three-four dollar, boot from an ebay dealer in City of Portland, OR. lasted about six months on my wife's always sheltered, but more often four wheeled, CJ2A.

Not sure if they were from the same manufacturer but they did seem equally pliable and thin when I installed them. They both fell apart very quickly with light to moderate usage.
With shipping I could have bought almost four cheapies from Portland instead of the more expensive one but garbage is garbage no matter the price.
Failing a good recommendation I guess I'll try making something out of leather just to keep that tasty Idaho dust from coming in. I'm really liking our M151A2 more all the time because good old MILSPEC, made in the USA parts are still available for it.

Krage sold me a total garbage one from India. Fell to pieces on installation. Debella sold me another, fitted perfectly, very supple rubber material. Perfect.

Thanks for the interest and info guys. I appreciate your input. The leather one from RFP looks like a great one for our less than factory issued CJ2A. Still cogitating on what to do for the MD's boot.
Cheers Don
