ID this air cleaner?

Post by evanso1975 »

Saw this on the worldwide flea market:

From memory, I believe the WW2 jeep air cleaner had louvres around the upper edge, but this one appears to be sealed and has 2 threaded connections for vent lines (much like the M38 one). I did initially think it was an M38 one that had been modified to look like a WW2 jeep type.

BUT the threaded connections look to be in the front face, definitely not like the M38. Just to satisfy my curiosity, could this be part of the MX-735 waterproofing kit for the WW2 jeep? Or is it just one that Bubba got hold of?

I dont know what its from either, I've seen these before. I'm sure there are louvers on the back side. Air has to come in somewhere.

Here's a late MB air cleaner. The louvers are on the back side at the top.

I think you'll find louvers at the back side on top on the air cleaner shown on Ebay. Those threaded ports are probably added in the field for a late WWII fording conversion with water proof ignition.

Air Cleaner

I think that air cleaner is off a PE95 genset. Here is a picture of my engine and aircleaner before I stripped all the PE956 parts off it. My engine was taken out of a PE95. The air cleaner in the picture had the louvers on the back and the mounting brackets were a bit different than the WWII set-up.
