Reflectors

Post by ocwd »

Are these reflectors much different than the originals on the M38? Looks like a good price.

reflectors

Post by TomM »

They look close to the originals supplied by Guide. The 4" mounting will make them line with the original holes in your tub. The sort of split in the middle of the reflector is similar to the originals too.
The difference is that there is a subtle shape difference of the metal plate.

Other than us purists looking on hands and knees to see if the metal is imprinted "Guide Made in USA" you could install these on your M38 and they would look very good and very correct.

I bought those very ones. While they aren't original, they will work fine. Holes match right up. They do need to be stripped and repainted though as the paint is a darker glossy green.

OK. That's good info. I'll probably just scuff the paint and paint right over it.

Yes it seems a good price @ $1.57 each shipped for a qty of 20.
If you make the purchase and end up with 4 "spares" maybe
we could strike a bargain..

I don't need 20 for sure. I transferred money to my Paypal account to buy these. Hopefully they don't all sell by the time the funds are available. If I get them, I'll send 4 your way for $1.57 plus shipping.

Should be all the same hole size. I have a suspicion this guy has more than what he is showing on fleebay. I bought my box back on the 1st of Nov from him, I remember thinking the same thing.
I have 20 sitting on my shelf, I only need 5. I'm hoping I can make one work for the spare tire reflector.

tire reflector

Post by TomM »

The spare tire reflector is the same as the others on the M38. The mount has a steel ring that sourrounds/covers the reflector. The ring is held to the tire mount with two small flathead screws.

Part numbers in the M38 ORD9 match the M38A1 ORD9, so the hole centres will match.

There's 2 types in the M38 list though. I think the oval ones are the slightly later type (replacement? or M38A1?). The factory-original M38 ones were "square tab", similar to late WW2 GPW ones. Like these:

But those are way more than I would pay for 4 reflectors with shot lenses. :(
