Man, they thought of everything when they designed the Jeep! And you had padded armrests when you packed up the top.

Thanks for all the help Wes!

wesk,

I'm working on my 1956 M38A1 footman loops as well. I found existing holes in the top rail for the two rear loops that measure 7", 9 1/8"and 23", 25 1/8" using the back of the vehicle as my zero. These also align with the loop holes on top of the fender well, so I am fairly confident they are correct. The loop holes on the side must have been field installed because they do not line up and do not match from side to side.

You have a nice drawings of an M38 posted on Feb 20 and an M38A1 posted Feb, 21st, but there are no dimensions listed for the M38A1. It also looks like the sketch is for the brackets and not the footman loops.

My questions are: 1) Am I correct to assume that the holes on the top flange are in the correct position? 2) Am I correct to assume that the top holes and the side holes should line up? 3) What is the distance (from the rear of the vehicle or some other starting point) to the front, side footman loops?

Is there anybody out there who can measure and provide their loop locations or possible measure the center to center strap distance on their side curtains? Do you have a drawing showing the locations of the loops? I want my top to fit nice (when I finally buy it, that is!).

Thanks in advance!

Considering the tolerances that can add up when fabricating canvas if I had no loops on the jeep yet I would wait till I had the new top and then I can make darn sure the loops match that top.
