This may sound like a stupid question, but I couldn't find it in the manuals, and I've seen two different paints in the pictures that I looked through. I'm in the process of cleaning useable parts and wanting to repaint them. What is the correct paint color for the air cleaner and the Oil Filter Canister? I've seen the air filter canister as all black. I've also seen it as black with the Air Intake Precleaner painted Green. I'm assuming it's all black, but want to make sure.
As for the oil canister, I've seen that as black, and green. Which one is correct? Thanks guys. If I missed where the correct paint colors are, please point me in the right direction as I'm sure I'll have more painting questions as I'm restoring the jeep.
Also, would it be a good idea to use heat resistant paint (if that's the word I'm looking for) since it's near the engine and gets rather hot under the hood?
Painting questions.

Except for the exhaust manifold area Hi-temp paint is not needed. The blocks got the same OD 2430 that the jeeps got on their bodies.
There are several lists floating around for engine bay colors. Correct colors depends on factory resto or motor pool resto. This is because motor pool restos can be presented with parts that were replaced in service and those parts did not always follow the same paint notations the factory installations had.
Factory for the air cleaner is satin black with the pre-cleaner OD 2430. The Cuno oil filter and the military junior oil filter from the factory were satin black.

M38 first pilot models had the Military Junior. All production M38's had the Cuno filter.
M38A1 first early units thru MD28132 (about OCT 52)had the Cuno filter and all remaining production M38A1's and all M170's Had the Military Junior.

It helps for folks to indicate what Model Willys they are discussing in their posts. An easy way is to go to your profile and list your jeep model and year in your signature. Then it will always show up automatically in each of your posts.

As I pointed out in my email to you. The Marine M38A1's are very challenging to nail down to a correct time period. The Junior is allowably correct for a motor pool class resto but not correct for a factory resto even if the jeep went to the Marines.
Which reminds me just how did you determine the jeep you have was an ex-Marine jeep?

This plate was factory to all Army and Air Force jeeps built from 1950 thru 1957. It is also occasionally found on Marine jeeps.

This plate is found on Marine jeeps procured through the Army procurement system 1948 thru about 1957 but delivered to the Marines.
