Slow starting when cold

My jeep has started something new since coming out of winter storage. When it is cold it takes it a long time to start, last weekend I thought it was going to leave me stranded after I stopped to eat lunch. If it has any warmth to it from running it fires right off. It used to fire right off even if sitting for a week, not so right now. any ideas?

We often overlook the simple things in this modern 100000 mile spark plug days. The widening of the plug gap with age and use will slowly increase starting time when cold.

Carbs whose gaskets have shrunk will often evaporatye gas from the bowl and vacuum chambers faster and cause a longer cold starting cycle.

And one of the simplist mistakes we often forget the basic starting nature of the YS carbs that require a full choke application hot or cold to enable the accelerator pump vacuum circuit.

My jeep has never required full choke to start when warm, and used to start without choke cold.

I think I am going to check the points and plugs when i get time to this weekend.

Bill, that is entirely possible however the operator's manual makes the starting procedure very clear. Full choke and leave the gas pedal alone.
For the reason that accelerator pump is not functional without a strong vacuum signal and if the engine is not pulling decent vacuum during start or the diphragm in the accelerator pump is not in the best of shape the need for the choke becomes more important.
