Gpw/Mb part similarities to M38

Post by pickle »

I was wondering if anyone can tell me if there are parts found on the GPW/Mb that are found on the M38? It is a bit of a story, but a buddy of mine found a jeep that he saved from being scraped. Not much left of the back of the tub, but his description of it ( I haven't seen it) sounds like it maybe an Mb. I have an M38, but I am wondering if there is any parts that can be used toward the M38. I am wondering about front axle assembies, steering box, instrument panel, drive shafts, specifically, but am interested in others. If not, I may have something for sale.

A few similarities but not a lot.
I am wondering about
front axle assembies, It can b e shoe horned in but the knuckle steerinng arms are different and the ration is 4.88:1 vs the M38 5.38:1
steering box, Can be shoehorned in but smaller, lighter and a different ratio.
instrument panel, [uGauges are mounted individually in the panel and are direct reading or 6 volt vs M38's 24 volt gauges mounted in a small removable cluster panel.][/u]
drive shafts, Again can be shoehorned in but are shorter in the front and longer in the back due to the shorter T89 tranny
specifically, but am interested in others. If not, I may have something for sale.

I'd save your money for real M38 parts.

Thanks Wes, really appreciate it. I really should have asked if willys used any parts that were consistent from the gpw/mb model to the m38 model. It sounds like no. I should have known with gauges on the voltage differences. I imagine springs were different as well? Not 100 percent certain, but I may have an Mb for sale.

There will always be someone ready to exchange parts you need for what you have, all you have to do is find them.

Springs had less leaves and smaller pivot end bolts.
