Vacuum wiper motor modification

Post by wilfreeman »

Ok, so I installed M151 wiper motors on my 'a1 this week. Now, to make them look right and be more out of the way, I need to flip them so that the rounded part is facing up. I also need to flip the handle 180deg so that it's facing down. Has anyone here removed one of these handles? I can see the pin that goes through the shaft. But how do I remove it? I dont want to screw up mine trying to figure it out if somebody here already knows how to do it!

I did some M38a1 wiper motors. I used a small diameter punch and supported the shaft. Be careful not to use too much force or the rod will bend. Was actually pretty easy.... I assume the M151 wipers would be about the same

Check for clearance before you fold down the windshield
and scratch your freshly painted hood. I think the stems on
the 151 motors are longer than stock..
keep 'em rollin'

I'll have to try to "punch" them out - thanks for the tip!

Yeah, I shortened the stems by 1/2" (could have gone 5/8"), ground them down to 3/16" diameter and rethreaded them 10-24.
