brake parts question..... Sell or scrap?

Are the brake cylinders worth keeping or selling? I have done a few brake jobs and I was wondering if I should bother selling the old master cylinders or brake cylinders. They are kind of rusty, but I know a lot of people like to rehab old stuff. Any opinions? Should I toss these in the scrap bin or would any one out there like to buy them? Very cheap of course.

I rebuilt my M38's old master cylinder (mainly because it was an original). If they're the original Wagner Lockheed cylinders, I'd be tempted to sell them.

If you want to be fair to a buyer then hone them out. If the clean up sell them. If they won't clean up scrap them.

Keep them, sell them or give them away. Do not scrap them. Some, including me, have rebuilt Lockheed parts and relined Bendix shoes just because. Pitted bores can be repaired with stainless sleves. The cost is more than new but people have done it. White Post offers the service amongst others. I have had hard to find Chevy master cylinders relined by them and it was less $ than the cost of NOS.
Plus the quality of the import stuff is getting worse so I no longer accept import brake parts. The last straw was the metric bleeders on my rear wheel cylinders ...'and a leaky, made in taiwan Wagner master cylinder (leaked right out of box from new). Can't have that.

I don't think I would ever rehab them myself. I did see Wagner on a couple of them. If any one wants them contact me and I will see how many I have. It won't be too many.


On a slightly related topic. There is a company here (Houston) that will relign any brake shoe. I went in with the willys shoes and they quoted me $18 each.

I inquired at NAPA auto parts and they have them (another state. have to ship) for $20 a set. When I asked for clarification he told me a set was the whole axle. 4 shoes. They want the old ones or there is a core charge.
$&%.... at that price I ordered 3 sets. I can't believe they are that cheap.
Anyone else bought them there?

If you have skimmed the drums, the place in Houston will also give you oversize linings to suit the new drum diameter if you ask, which you should.

If you have the ability to rivet your own linings then simply shim the linings to match the thickness removed from the drum.
