WW2 jeep help needed!

Post by evanso1975 »

Picked up a MB/GPW windscreen frame a few weeks ago. There's an odd modification to the frame that allows it to hinge higher up (hope you can make out the photos):

I initially thought "Bubba's finest craftsmanship", but the work is quite high quality (possibly motor pool?). Before this modification gets consigned to oblivion, has anyone seen this type of modification before? Nothing in the books, and a google image search showed nothing.

Note: this screen has WW2 British Army-style rifle bracket mounts on the inside of the screen, so if this modification is a military one, it was possibly done by the British military.

Thanks in advance,
Owen.

Take a look at this CDN M38 for conclusions. In order to accomodate the 106mm recoiless rifle, the windshield frame is partly foldable.
