Here's the situation with our M38:
We have an original M38 air cleaner, pre-cleaner and mounting brackets. We have a civvy WO carburetor that's been rebuilt and works fine. A correct YS carb isn't in the budget for now. We have an air horn for the WO, and an M38 flexible hose for the air cleaner to crossover tube. No crossover tube nor tube-to-carb hose yet. The goal is to get a functional system that is as close to M38 correct as practical so that if we find a YS carb in the future, as few as possible parts will have to be changed out.
Looking for recommendations on how to connect the air cleaner to the WO carb with the above goal in mind. Is the YS air horn the same diameter ,height and lateral offset as the sheetmetal air horn on a WO, which would allow the use of M38 crossover tube and tube-to-carb hose? Or close enough in diameter that a sleeve could be used to adapt?

A little offset and a slight difference in diameters. Buy a long enough piece of flexible wire reinforced hose to fit the larger diameter and it can be clamped tightly on the WO stamped steel air horn elbow.

Thanks, Wes. It's good to know we can use the correct M38 crossover tube for both now and long term.
I wound up with a MB/CJ "air horn bushing" by (my) mistake in one parts order. I gather that provides a flexible seal between the air horn and the CJ crossover tube. Maybe it will work to make up the difference in diameter you describe.

The molded rubber air hose is the proper connection between the air horn and crossover tube. Note how it ducks under the radiator support rod then rises slightly to meet the carb - either the civy air horn or right angle head of the military carb. Might be a little more expensive than other hose options but its the right part and fits perfectly. I've also got a military carb in a box waiting for a rebuild - another future project!
