Headlight guards

Post by Bretto »

Can someone measure the stock of the headlight guard and the gap between the headlight and the guard?
Thanks

Stock is .312 dia.
Aprox 1.312 fom headlite-(depending on your adjustment of the
cans/lamp)_
More accurately, 3.75" total finished ht of part .
Important to note that theyre not a single rad but elliptical.

Mine are not stock but made by MWM.

Sounds like a nice little project for a blustery day like today..

Rick,
Do you have a them off? If so, would it be possible to get a pic of them straight on, laying flat, tabs pointing up then one side shot of the tabs pointing up?
Thanks for the info already.

I got my license plate bracket almost ready. I'll post some pics later :D

I thought 5/16 (.312) might be a bit much to man handle but I had some 3/8 (.375) junk in the garage and just came up with this in the bench vise. I think with a good pic I can make a pattern to bend them to shape. Then heat and hammer the ends flat, drill and bend them 90*.

Thanks Rick.
Looks like 1/4" graph paper. That should help to.

I printed out the pic Rick post up so that the squares were right at 1/4" and went to work.
Instead of fouling these rods up by hammering the ends flat and work hardening them. Then possibly breaking the ends off bending them 90*, I am going to cut them down to length then weld on some flat tabs for the mounts.

Nice bends. I can see how you could break off the tabs unless
you had a heavy press. I've not seen a set of originals-does
someone here know if they're bent of welded tabs??
Just curious..

All the ones I've ever seen are bent. I'm sure from a manufacturing aspect, it only made sense to press and bend

Wow! Those look great! I have the slotted screws on my M38 lamp guards, but who knows if those are original or a field expedient job.

ORD 9 shows them being hex head bolts.

Thanks for the compliments.
