M38A1 - loosening filler plug

Post by col_ken »

I just joined this group and need some thoughts. I recently bought a 1952 M38A1 that runs and am in the process of filling all fluids. I cannot loosen the filler plug for the transmission. I work on old tractors so I have the tools. The plug is in a difficult position to get to. Any tricks on loosening this plug without rounding it out is appreciated.

If you have the original military style plug, a 1/2 inch drive breaker arm with the needed extension is what I use. If it's a square headed plug, I use the socket designed for square plugs and taps. John
