Mounting antenna L-bracket
Is there an exact measurement for the placement of the L-bracket for the mp50 mount? Also, what about the hole placement for the antenna wire. I looked through Wes's photo album, and saw the measurements for the mounts themselves, but I guess I could have missed the measurements for installing the mounts.

Thanks Chris , exactly the info I was looking for! Looks like after Joel and Wes kissed and made up, all the info seemed clear (sorry Wes!) - the corner bracket is keyed on the ground screw for the trailer plug receptical. Now, what size bolts to use - 5/16" I'm guessing, since the holes are drilled 3/8".

Thanks again Chris - I wish this phone was just a little bigger, so I could read stuff like the legend and the details. I'll check all the drawings out in detail before I start drilling holes next week!

A little update. I received my L-bracket (SC-C-28591) from Fair Radio the other day, but it is the early version made for the M38 - of course! It is a great piece for $25 - NOS with hardware - ready to bolt on, just the wrong version.
Now, with that said, would it be correct to install this bracket on my 'a1? If so, should I bolt it to the left side of the seam, or bend it as some did before the later brackets came out to make it reach to the right side of the body seam?
Lastly (for now), I see that DLBensinger it's sling these brackets and says they are available for the M38 and 'a1. Since they weren't open on the weekend to ask, I was wondering if anyone has purchased an 'a1 bracket from them and is it the correct (longer) version? If not, I will call him tomorrow and find out. Midwest Military sells the repro mp50, but an NOS bracket that looks like the early version I already have. Any other sources I could check out?
Thanks!

Hi Matt,
The discussion between Cuz and Ben explains more about the bracket:
http ://g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=172104
I have a new home made bracket for my M38A1.
If you want I can send a by myself adapted drawing.
Chris

Since the bracket was not a factory installed item it has no ill affect on a factory class resto other than not being factory. In the motor pool class again it makes little difference since both were used on the A1 in the field.
To make it right just weld the necessary extension on the rear inboard end and redrill the holes. Grind it smooth, paint and no one will ever know the difference.

Thanks for the offer Chris, but I'm waiting for John at Midwest Military to check to see if he has the "correct" for the M38a1 bracket. If he doesn't, I'm going to just use what I've got.
Wes, do you think I should even worry about bending the bracket to reach over the body seam, or just drill it like it is? I think I have run across 1 close up picture of the mount(early or late) on an 'a1. I actually thought about cutting and extending my bracket, but I'm not not big of a correctness nazi, so that thought went on by! I just want it to be correct and not look like a "bubba mod" - not planning on entering her in any shows, just enjoying her (and the cb that the antenna is hooked to)!
Thanks for the info and help guys!

If you bend the L bracket you end up with an obviously crooked bracket. I would mount her exactly where she likes to rest comfortably. The idea is to keep the back face of the bracket that the MP50 bolts to parallel to the rear edge of the tub. Bending the L bracket to make it reach across the seam results in an ugly angle of the MP50. You can use a spacer with a couple of longer bolts if the inside edges of the seam are right in the middle of the bolt holes.

I installed my antenna today. Straight forward job - covered step by step on my blog (blog address in my signature). I will have to figure out how to measure the antenna so that I can cut it to length to use as my CB antenna. Is it measured from the bottom of the AB15 threaded fitting(where the coax screws on)?
My daughter and I went for a trail ride right after I got it installed. NOTE: If you are riding tight trails, either don't have the antenna tied down, leave it straight up, or remove it - trust me, the top two mast sections got bent on my trail ride (I was able to straighten them out pretty good though).

Last question for now: The tie down I got was made for a larger diameter antenna I guess because it isn't a tight fit, so I can't tie it to the bumper. I have to tie it pretty much straight down. I tied it to the mirror arm. The only other place I could see maybe working would be the wiper motor guard. What would have been a correct tie down point for this Jeep?

TECHNICALLY- 8 years, BUT, she has already been steering around the field already (with the hand throttle pulled out, low range, 1st gear). So I think she will be driving the Jeep as soon as she can work the pedals! I can see it already - I'll never be able to sell or trade this Jeep!
