Thanks for the trying to help. On the wiring harness there is a ring terminal for the earth but it can be bolted in a few different places with the lenght of the wire. To work it could go to any of the points but hope to find out it's correct point.

If I get out to the shop today, I will post a pic where it goes. There is a little terminal block type of thing that the short wire goes to, but you will also need another ground running to chassis ground. I ran an extra wire to the fenders - this was still not good enough. I was blowing bulbs and asked the same question. I haven't rerun my grounds yet - my passenger bulb is blown, but the driver side is still good on both high and low beam. These bulbs are too expensive to do trial and error.

One other thought - have you looked through Wes's photo gallery? He has a picture of pretty much everything you need to see on an M38 or 'a1

Both the M38 and the M38A1 ground attaches the same place. They use the upper outboard light bucket mounting screw and nut.

Grounding becomes a serious issue on restorations because we try to hard to make the jeep LOOK good. Too much paint. If you take the time to use the correct star washers when attaching the fenders to the tub and the grill to the fenders and remove the paint from the edges of each bolt hole to provide a good ground path then all the extra add-on PITA jumper grounds won't be necessary.

It can often be amazing how many answers we can find right in the manuals.
