Oil filter location

Post by hooligan »

Well still no joy with the Image thing...

I got out and got the unit fired up today... Decided to start putting things back on out of the box o' parts that came with it. When I went to put the fording cable on I finally noticed that my oil filter seems to be on the reverse side of every unit I have looked at on this site.

I'm going to guess, based on this bracketry (that's the diagonal support leg at the top):

that I won't be putting the fording cable on this side without moving everything to the passenger side? Or is there possibly a "Canadian thing" that I should be looking for?

Thanks

Just a guess that maybe your jeep had a large heater unit installed on the passenger side at some point requiring the oil filter relocation.

It looks well done. I think it is kind of interesting but it would be easy to make it stock.

One other idea... does or did your jeep have a 100 amp generator? I remember looking at a Canadian A1 a few years ago that had a huge generator that is mounted higher than the 28 amp version... so it might very well be a Canadian thing!

Yes it did have a heater but its the same one used in the US units or at least it looks like it. I'll put a picture of that up as well. I have the wiring & the heater but no braketry to mount it at the moment.

I have an alternator. Looks about the same size as the generator, at least from looking at pictures. I have nothing to compare it with around here. I will check out the plaques nd see what size/model it is as well.

I guess I will start collecting cable clamps and see if I can come up with something. I was kind of hoping it was just a variation and someone would have a part number :-(

usually the only time the filter ends up over there is when a snow plow hydraulic pump that piggy backs the generator went on the right.

I'd just settle for the bubba mod explanation and straighten it out.

Well if it's a bubba mod they did a fine job of painting it to match the engine. The entire engine and appropriate assemblies are the same color which, I think means it came attached from the last rebuild.

It certainly leaves a lot of room on the passenger side though... I may actually get that heater put back in at some point :-)

And I think I finally figured out the images thing... Joy is me...

Thanks

Don't be surprised if the bracket cracks again at the repair weld next to the head bolt. That's a lot of weight hanging way out with only a small piece of strap being used to support weight that the entire angle was meant to support. \Should that break again while the engine is running and drop into the fan it will get far more expensive than relocating it to it's correct original well supported position. The norm for relocating that filter assembly was over to the driver's fender and Willys provided a kit for that.
