Help IDing this engine.

Post by davpet »

guys,
I was told this is a Jeep engine by my buddy who teaches Auto Mechanics in my school...he's not in town so I can't ask him anything for a few days. Is this an F head engine??? I cleaned off about 20 years of dust in a dark back room and couldn't see a thing (lets hear it for flash photography). There was a triangular tag which had rebuild date and place...I could barely make out 9/77 as the date.

I'm putting an imagestation link here...anyone who is good w/ the editing can possibly read the data plate in the first pic..I'm a real newbie at that stuff. This is an engine and tranny I believe.

thanks for any help you all can give me.

Will a M151 engine fit in a CJ3A frame???

Post by davpet »

guys,
are there differences in dimensions??? or could I swap out the barely leaking (sniff...sniff) L134 and replace it w/ the 151 engine in the pics?? Is it too tall for the hood? is it too long for the engine compartment?? is iit just impossible to swap in???

Is one inherently a better engine than the other???

thanks,

Dave

It fits a heckuva lot better and EASIER in an M151. You'll spend a LOT more time and money converting your CJ3A to a M151 engine then you would just repairing the L134. Also your CJ3A will be worth twice as much with the stock L134.
