Can the rear main oil seal be changed by pulling the oil pan leaving the engine in the jeep like the old chevy engines ?
Thanks in advance for any help,
pete
There will always be someone who will swear it was a piece of cake lying on his back under the jeep with the pan off and the crank mains loose. Personally that is hog wash.
If you want to do it right. And do it once. Then pull the engine throw it on the stand and do it right. By pulling the engine you can discern absolutely which is leaking. The rear main seal or the welsh plug in the rear cam journal hole. You cannot see the welsh plug without removing the bell housing.
If your working in a shop for flat rate and you know exactly how to cut corners and not have a return then yes - have at it. Why people think this is a good idea on their own vehicle where time and money are not an issue, I don't know.
