will a gas tank from a 1948 willys fit my '45 MB? theres a good deal I came across, but i wanted to see if you guys could clarify first?

My son-in-law and I just did a tank in a militarized CJ2A modified to be a MB - we looked over the real MB carefully - the tanks are much different, first the MB has a well and larger tank then a CJ, second the CJ has a side fill where the MB fill is under the driver seat. You probably could rig a CJ tank under the MB seat (although the MB seat frame might have to be spaced up) but the side filler neck is a problem - it would be a shame to chop a hole for the filler neck in a historic vehicle. With my son-in-law's CJ to MB he took the new, never used tank to a welding shop and had the filler neck moved. I would think it would be cheaper to get a replacement true MB tank.
