Rear axle grease zeros

I just noticed a grease zerk on the top of the rear axle on each side. Is that stock ? They are close to the axle seals I think but on top of the axle. Thanks John jr

Mine had plugs in them, so I removed them and put a zerk in for lubing, then put the plug back.

Yes they were for hand gun greasing of the rear bearings. The Military replaced them with plugs on a TB or MWO because the troops were over greasing them and the grease was migrating through the seal to the brakes.

mine actualy had two holes at each end of the rear axle, the one on top had a vented cap and one about 45 degrees off that had the pipe plug.

I still remember someone "teaching" me how to use a grease gun.

"Just pump until you see grease."

You do that on that axle and you'll be re-doing the rear brakes. The rule was 2 pumps every 6000 miles.

I know a few people need to learn how to use them... like don't force the ram all the way in when you just loaded the gun....
I was taught three pumps or until you see movement of the seal, whichever came first.

Or replacing seals on just about anything else.
