Hey guys, took some pics this weekend of an M38A1 tub that we've had for some time as a donor candidate, got really interested when I finally paid attention to the markings more than I have what parts I could get off of it. It has "U.S. Navy" & some numbers below that on the rear panel of the body (numbers are indecipherable). It also has "8007" painted in large numbers above the fuel filler neck & "#13" on the rear quarter panel, where the antenna mount would normally be (see pics below).
Anyone have any information or ideas on Navy M38A1's?
Thanks, Galen
THe US navy and the number below tells me that jeep from recent aka mid 60's to mid 80's when the navy dropped the jeep for small trucks and large trucks and van I would say the number is proably 933XXX. this the actual registration number to that jeep
Thanks for the pics it give a basis to do my marking on my jeep.
The Navy registration number for all Navy jeeps including the CJV-35/U from 1950 onwards (when they made the change to the numbering system) would be 94-XXXXX. The 94 is the vehicle class and included pickups, panels, etc. up through one ton classification so a M715 would also be 94-XXXXX. Some earlier vehicles including WW2 ones got a new number assigned when they were refurbed but most of the early stuff kept it's original numbers. Other vehicle classifications would have a different prefix. So the number on the tub shown was 94-3XXXX.
