Help ID my jeep
I purchased a new jeep. And am confused by thr data plates. It says M38A1 but has a serial CJ2A 63286 date 10/46. I'll add pics later. I was wondering if it was a military or civilian model

Hello Chad. You'll need to get some photos up or explain in greater detail.

This is an M38 dash.

Here is a website with a comprehensive history of Jeep models. Take a look and see if you can spot your Jeep. You can click on each photo for more info. Dash tags and ID plates get changed around on old jeeps for various reasons, they may not be accurate.

Here's Chad's photos.

This is a 1946 Civilian CJ2A jeep.

This is a surplus set of blank data plates for a M38A1 that some civilian owner picked up and stamped with his CJ2A serial number.
