Cleaning canvas

Post by RCFlyguy »

I don't post here very often, but I have a few questions. I have my M38 nearly complete and I'm ready to tackle the canvas.

All canvas is original and in decent condition and I would like to clean it. Is there a recommended procedure for cleaning it?

I tried a small sample a while back using dish soap and a little elbow grease. The result was a faded patch of canvas. Has anyone ever tried dying the canvas?

Also, I need to replace the vinyl windows on the side and rear curtains. Does anyone have a source for this material?

On a side note, this is the progress I've made on my Jeep so far. I plan on being in a few parades tomorrow. I've been waiting for this for almost 2 years.

Management: I took the liberty of downsizing your photos. They were much to large for folks with slower systems to dwonload and much larger then stipulated in photo posting tutorial.

I also opened a photo album for you here on our web site where you can select half size photos for posting.

There's a tutorial here for how to load: http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules. ... _album.php

Very nice rig. I would contact a canvas top manufacturer for safe guidance on cleaning your canvas. They can help you positively ID your material type and offer safe cleaning suggestions.

Thanks for the kind words, links, and the photo album Wes. I will be contacting some canvas shops in the next few days and will post any information I obtain.
