What is this siren on my M38!!

Post by elias929 »

I have a siren on my jeep, this is an anti-aircraft or police siren!
it sounds like the anti-aircraft cones.....

I don't think M38's were used in any combat areas subject to enemy A/C raids so air raid warning sirens would probably not be a purpose for the siren. But shore patrol, MP's, etc. would be a fairly common use - any other markings on the jeep? It is a cool looking unit whatever its origin.

This M38 is a old of the flight-line division (yellow color) but I do not know if the siren was on this jeep at original equipment!!

Emergency vehicle sirens have a fairly distinct sound and cause you to instantly look for an emergency vehicle approaching. Air raid sirens also have a distinct sound and usually result in your immediate gaze skyward.

With that in mind the next comment will certainly make sense.

Many unit Commanders likened themselves to a God or Zeus if you may and therefore liked to have their vehicle's siren a type which emitted a sound that made you look UP.
