Hi Guys
Have you a good solution for remove the old paint on the rubber, i see the people take a dot3 brake oil for remove a paint. They deposit in oil and some time later, they remove with a brush. Is it a good idea, because i would like to remove the paint on the rubber bump stop of my Unimog.
Thanks in advance!

Ive used that paint remover that you brush on and it makes the paint curdle off. Just don't leave it on very long, it can swell the rubber.

Back in the late 50's, when I worked at a garage, brake fluid was used as a rubber lubricant. DOT 3 was all that was available back then, so I would guess that it is still a good rubber lubricant, and a slow paint remover.

Ive had some sucess lifting paint from rubber with some lacquer thinner on a rag. Is the paint on heavy or is it overspray?

Spray but tough to remove, because is a thin layer which does not crack. I must rub, rub and rub...
But I have all my time....
I ordered new ones, but I have not received the good parts. But the old bump stop are good, but the work to clean the old paint.
Thanks!
Michel.

Here the picture:
After 24 hour in dot3 oil. The old paint starts to react but we must scrub with a brush. I'll wait yet one day for see the reaction. For the moment the rubber is in good condition.

I use a sand blaster on 100 PSI... takes the paint right off and so far has not damaged any of my rubber parts...

I thought that sandblasting was too powerful.
For sandblasting of my parts, i use of glass dust.
