M38 Tailgate

Post by willys51 »

I have an early M38 (1951). It does not have the metal bar for the gas can strap on the tailgate. Were there any differences in the early M38 tailgate.

Thanks for your help

No. The same tailgate WO# 673332 was used on all production M38's.

If your tailgate is otherwise correct then it is safe to assume that the bar was removed to facilitate the fitting of a civilian top of some kind.

Take a look at my photo album here: http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules. ... php&page=1

Hey Brett,
Did you chain-drill that slot?

Good gravy that's a lot of work, but it sure turned out well!

1/8" stock?

Thanks,
Brian

I can't remeber the thickness.
I think I understand your term chain drilling, one hole then another then another right next to each other. That's how I did it then dressed it up with a file.

You sure do nice work.
I believe you qualify as a fabricator.

I've been digging through your posts this morning.

There is a lot of sweat and blood out there in that garage.

Again, very nice jeep, My Friend.

Smoke and mirrors my friend. I'll accept the title a few steps up from Bubba what ever that might be.
