transmission and transfer case gear oil

Post by bl5211a »

I know this must of been discussed a gazillion times.

Should i use straight 90 W in m170 transmission and transfer case or 80-90 or 75-90.

Thinking any would be ok, but thought i would put it out there.

There has to be at least 20 gear oil discussions here on this web site.

Bottom line is to use a gear oil that:

1: has low enough sulphur to prevent corrosion issues with brass parts like the synchro rings in the tranny.

2: the correct viscosity for the season.

3: Doesn't impede the shifting functions of either box.

Do a little search of the web site for many more opinions.

Hi Brian,

I know that the search function in the forum can be a little difficult. For more specific results I suggest searching the mjeeps forums through google. Starting your search query with "mjeeps +" followed by the topic will give you much more refined results.

Happy searching.
