M38 phantom footman loop holes

Post by BCA »

I am lucky to be working on an unmolested 1952 M38 and so I'm spotting a lot of interesting small details. For example, just above the trailer receptacle (on in a similar position on the right side of the M38) are to 2 holes that were factory punched in the body tub (? for a footman loop since they are 2.125" C-C ) but then plugged from the rear with a welded-on plug. What was the original reason for a footman loop in these 2 spots. Do these holes appear on all M38 bodies? Are they something that was only useful on the CJ3A and filled-in on M38 tubs. ..... Brian

Thanks Brett. I figured others had noticed them. Wes: The tub was from an a
American M38. I haven't had a chance to see if they appear on the M38CDN bodies. ... Brian
