Speedometer Driven Gear

Post by M606BR »

Hello everyone!

The speedometer cable from my M38 has broken recently. Then, I found out that such speedometer cable is not the original, it's a CJ cable. Besides that, the driven gear sleeve isn't the correct for the M38, it's a short sleeve P/N 636396. So, I decided to get the correct set for my late M38: driven gear sleeve SW #418991 + 15 teeth driven gear SW #448361 + M38 speedometer cable.

When I removed the driven gear from my M38, I noted it's a 14 teeth gear (SW #448033). Will a 15 teeth driven gear work properly in my transfer case, once the previous driven gear is a 14 teeth gear? Is it possible to get the drive gear damaged by making such replacement? And what about the speedometer readings after the switch? My tires are 7.00 x 16.

Thanks,
