Price for a new M 38 (government price) 1952

Post by DocUwe »

Good evening,

do not laugh.....I need the price which the US government needed to pay for a new M 38 jeep in 1952.
The finance authority here in Germany must knew this price; I want to use my M 38 partly for my home visits and that's why some costs (for gas, oil and insurance) are tax-deductible. For calculation the finance authority must knew the price for a new jeep; does someone know this price? Or where is it written on?
Cheers Uwe :D

This has been discussed somewhere before. On the inside of the windshield of my 1951 M38 is stenciled 2004.00.

Uwe here are photos of cost marked M38s; one is a photo and one a video screen capture. Both are stenciled as a cost of $2162.

Using one of the inflation calculators found on the web, that $2,160 in 1952 dollars would be $19,409.05 today. A new 2014 Jeep Wrangler starts at $22,395 - not really that far apart.
