Fuel pump

Post by Mjfire1949 »

I just replaced the original dual action fuel pump on my '52 M38 with a single stage pump. I will get the original rebuilt. The new pump is not pulling fuel from the tank. I suspect I have missaligned the cam lobe. Is there any other reason for this problem?

Did you try pressurizing the tank (real low pressure) until you get fuel at the pump inlet? I had to do this when I replaced my entire fuel system (tank to carb).

Real low means no more than 2 PSI.

To my knowledge ONLY the mil fuel/vac dbl pump uses the spacer.
No spacer with the civvy pump. I think you'll find you're not
pumping because the spacer is not allowing the pump to engage
the cam lobe.
See this from the last reply of your earlier post, what "oilleaker"
said was NO spacer @ civvy pump..

Thanks fellows. The guy who sold it to me from Kaiser Willys Jeeps told me to use it. Makes since that the spacer is causing the pump not to engage the cam lobe. Thanks again.

When the jeep fires up and runs fine be sure to call the guy that told you that and let him know so hopefully he won't share bad info with anyone else.

Yes, I plan to do that. Just finished installing it without the spacer. It wasn't making any contact with the cam. I've bought a lot of parts from them, so I plan to let them. That information is published on their web site as an answer to a question about whether to use the spacer or not. Thanks for your help.
