I have a 1950 M38. MC 10945. One of the early ones off the line. I am in the middle of a restoration and I can remember where this went, what it was for. My early pictures dont show it. Anyone have an idea what it is and where it goes. I know it seems like a dubm question but it has me stumped
Phew!!
Finally I can be of some small assistance. Mud is the key word.
I've been lurking in the background of this fantastic site for a couple of years now. While reading and learning from everyone here about my upcoming m38 project, I browsed thru Ryan Miller's scanned PS Magazine pages. It seemes this plate is a suggested add on to prevent mud from entering the clutch.
Nice detective work!! Notice that excluded are mc51887-51989
which use the new bell housing, starter and genny for the late style
fording system. My Jeep being mc51986.
keep 'em rollin'

Glad to see this conversation as I have one of those hanging in my building
This same part came off my 52 m-38 in the process of restoring and I couldn't remember where it went. I also have a couple other parts I will try to photo and let someone figure out where they went cause I know they came off during the tear down and I cant figure out where they go back.
I guess hindsight is 20-20 and I should have taken a lot more pictures before I tore the jeep down!
