The M38A1 frames were not stamped at the factory as the MB/GPWs were. The only location of a vehicle s/n would be the data plate on the dash and the data plate on the passanger side wheel well right behind the passanger seat; however, some A1s had the hood registration #, overhaul work order #, s/n, or some combination of the three numbers stamped on the top of the drivers side frame rail behind the bumper when they went through overhaul depots. Again this is not on every jeep. Do a search on the topic of "frame stamp m38a1 willysmjeeps" using google and you will see a bunch of previous posts regarding this. If you have no data plates, or a title with the s/n there is very little chance you will determine the s/n. This is a very common problem.

See members albums page 1, Album sinrisnekaf page 1; photo "the location of the frame number".
Perhaps this helps.

Note: Chris' jeep is a Dutch NEKAF A1 and the location used for most US Army depot rebuilds was further back on the top or side of the left front frame rail between the grill and the firewall.

Here are some of the stampings that are on my frame ('53 M38A1). I have never been able to get an answer as to what they mean either. If anybody can be any help, it would be greatly appreciated.

The NOAH could be anything by anyone. The numbers are the part numbers of the pieces before they were welded to the chassis. Kept the production line guys working the chassis advised on which part went where.
