Spare tire spacer M-38

Can anyone tell me the size of the two spacers that goes between the tailgate and the spare tire bracket, or where I can find these ?

1" diameter x 5/8" long with proper size hole drilled in center. If I can find some 1" stock I was going to make some...

John at Midwest Military has them for $17.00 per set...

Hal, was that the spare fuel can bracket spacer you are thinking of? Midwest has those 4/$17.

I think the spare tire spacers are longer. I have a picture of the spacers sent to me from Pat Newman unfortunately it is at home.

Ryan has the spacers in his fastener document, but I don't have it here at work and it is not available on-line as of yet.

Greg can you e-mail me a photo of the spacers. I asked John about a year ago and he didnt have them. Maybe he has got them made. If they are 1 inch stock I will get some and make them myself also. Thanks,

Greg has the detail on the spacers!

I am currently visiting my brother and am away from my computer, so I don't have anything handy.

The spacer is really just a small metal tube.

I thought John at Midwest Military has them if I remember correctly.

I went to the hardware store bought a few pieces of thick threaded pipe about 3" long that a bolt would pass through, I cut the threads off, squared them up on the bench grinder, painted them and they work fine. Cheap too!

Please post other photos of how this spacer is used... My spare tire holder does not have these and no idea how they go...

If you look on the inside of your tailgate on the reinforcement channels you will see one square hole on each channel. A carriage bolt is inserted from the inside of the gate so the square hole mates up with the square shoulders on the carriage bolt. Place the spacer over the bolt on the backside of the bolt then place your spare tire bracket on the bolt. The spacer should be between your tailgate and bracket.

The following is rough diagram to help explain my rambling. The green lines indicate where the two brackets join without any bolts "joining" to the tailgate.

I checked out my tailgate, all the holes are there they just did not have bolts in them...

From Ryan's reference guide, they are 1-3/4" long. Not certain about the diameter, but they need to be big enough for a 3/8" bolt to pass through.
