M38a1 Molded Splicing Blocks
Guys
I want to get this right, do the Molded Splicing Blocks on the wiring loom sit inside or outside the rear left Chassis strengthening Gusset?
I have looked in the loom disconnect points in the TM9-8015 and to be honest it looks to be on the outside but my copy is a little blurry.
Thank You
Regards
Nic

When I rewired my M38 the block wound up on the top of the rear crossmember to the inside of the frame. That's where the wires stretched out to be from the right rear lights to the left. If you look at page 11 of the M38 power train manual the pic shows the block on the top or perhaps within the left frame member. http://willysmjeeps.com/downloads/M38-p ... yFrame.pdf I thnk that's where the original splice block was when I tore out the old harness.
On my M38A1 the splice block is inside the rear frame strengthening gusset. That is a fairly protected place on the frame. That jeep also has a repro wiring harness although I didn't install it.
So, it might be a matter of trial and fit if you have a new harness.

Thanks for the quick reply.
It's a quandry if you look at TM9-8015 Page 67 it looks to be laid flat on it's side up aginst the strenghtening gusset
I think!!!!
Different vehicles but similar chassis, different method of mounting?
Once I know how it is mounted I will start clipping the loom from the back forward.
Regards

My guess is against the rear crossmember based on review of the ORD 9 and this fig 108 from 8014.

Chris, Is your harness an original or repo? Do you have a photo of how the splice block is tucked into your rear left frame rail?

My splice block is pretty much just stuck behind the gusset on the left rear frame rail. This is a repro harness and at many points the wiring is held in place by modern wire ties, in other places by the original clips. The wire bundle is quite stiff, the block, while not tied down itself, can't move around much.

Hi Wes,
The main harness is made by myself.
This is axacte copy of two existing used original main harness that came of the M38A1(Nekaf).
I used original Prestolite cable AWG No. 14 and other Original parts.
Tomorrow I sent you a photo of "how the splice block is tucked into your rear left frame rail".

My M38A1 had barely enough Bubba wire to run so I'm not familiar with the "Splice Block".
Is it mostly a protective cover, or is it more like a junction box.
Is it waterproof?
Is it permanently molded or cast in place, or is it removable?
What material is it made with?
Do you fabricate it when making your own harness, or are ready-to-use blocks available from the military parts suppliers?
Thanks

Is it waterproof? Yes
Is it permanently molded or cast in place, or is it removable? Permanently molded rubber block.
What material is it made with? Rubber
Do you fabricate it when making your own harness, or are ready-to-use blocks available from the military parts suppliers? I have never seen a new block being sold. The harness is spliced at that point during assembly and then wrapped in the molded rubber box.

The three separate splice blocks are apparently a NEKAF thing. The American built M38A1's have a single large rectangular splice block that encloses all the splices that occur at the left rear corner of the harness.
