Low compression

Post by Shakinboxcarjoe »

Finally wired up motor to crank it over. Checked compression between 40-60 in all cylinders. Do you guys find a valve lapping and honing, new rings usually do the trick? Also this is a 51 m38 but I suspect it's a civvy motor. It's 24 volts but it came withe civvy carb and fuel pump...how can I confirm? Thanks

The only way to ascertain for certain what chassis Willys originally installed an engine in is the serial number prefix stamped on the boss above the water pump.

MB = Willys MB
V = CJV35
MC or RMC + Willys M38
CJ2A or J = CJ2A
3A = CJ3A & DJ3A
P = Pickup
U = Utility
