Do the rear washers that go on right before the castle nut supposed to have a 'spindle' section on the inside that prevents it from spinning, or does mine look correct? This one came off the left axle, and didn't have one at all on the right side. Looking for another one in town, but having a heck of a time finding one with the right dimensions. 1 1/32 ID, 1 13/16 OD, 1/8" thick.
Aaron,
It is a plain washer. The washer design you are thinking of is the tabbed washer which is usually used when it has to bear against a surface that is subject to rotation like a wheel bearing inner race on a conventional axle wheel hub where that washer would be against the inner race and if the bearing failed it would try to spin the inner race which would in turn try to spin that washer which would then try to turn the nut off on the left side axle shafts and turn the nut tighter on the right side axle shafts.
Since the rear hub that is retained by that axle nut and washer on the 41/44 series rear axles does not rotate independant of the axle there's no worries of the hub coming loose and rotating against the washer.
Aaron, the reason it's so cold in Aberdeen is that it's located in the southern portion of the Artic Circle! If you were over here in the Black Hills, you could grow bananas! Nice to see another SD guy. John
